A number of top centre-backs could be on the market as free agents next summer, and Liverpool could be at the center of it all. Ibrahima Konate could fall into this category, but the same can be said for some transfer targets – Dayot Upamecano being one.
Upamecano’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in eight months, but no agreement has been reached to extend his stay at Bayern Munich. Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in the French international, but they face competition from Chelsea and Man City, and all teams will be keen to see how the situation develops.
Bayern Munich concerned about loss of Dayot Upamecano
According to Graham Bailey (via TBR Football), Upamecano is likely to remain at Bayern, but there are fears he will not sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena.
“We’ve got a really attractive summer coming up, especially given some of the big free agents that could be available, especially in the centre-half market. In England we’re thinking and talking about Marc Guehi, but in Europe the name that’s being talked about by a lot of people is French star Dayot Upamecano. He’s seriously considering a role at Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany.”
“I’ve spoken to officials at several Premier League clubs and they actually think Upamecano is more likely to stay than leave, but I can tell you that Bayern are very concerned that if they can’t reach an agreement with Bayern, an offer will be made for Upamecano in early 2026. And Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City are all very interested in signing him, and they all rate him highly.”
It will be interesting to see how Upamecano’s situation develops, but he would undoubtedly be a great signing for the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City.
