Liverpool are reportedly planning to carry out a U-turn for Federico Chiesa, with the club now determined to keep the Italian winger beyond January.
According to Football Insider, the 27-year-old, who was linked with a summer departure amid growing interest from Serie A, is seen as a key part of Arne Slott’s plans for the second half of the season.
Chiesa’s electric form to start the season appears to have closed the door to mid-season approaches, but Liverpool have not accepted any offers in the January window.
Federico Chiesa was an impressive player for Liverpool
The change in stance is not surprising considering Chiesa’s productivity and fit in the slot. In limited time, he was decisively efficient, directly contributing to four goals in just 153 minutes in six appearances.
Chiesa’s signature style of play, explosive first step, aggressive ball-carrying, and knack for getting into the scoring zone aligns with a slot focused on fast transitions and wide forwards who can both finish and create.
Liverpool are increasingly reliant on their forwards to provide action with goals and assists, and Chiesa’s early-season performances suggest he can make a difference either off the bench or starting.
Rejecting the offer could also preserve Liverpool’s influence over future discussions in a more benign summer market rather than a reactive winter market.
Chiesa is assessed by Anfield’s Arne Slott
For the player, staying put provides continuity under a manager who clearly believes in him and the basis for him to consolidate his form in the Premier League.
It always made sense for him to be linked with Serie A in the summer, but Liverpool’s stance has now changed, with Slott praising the player’s importance and contribution to the team.
With four goal contributions from minimal playing time, Chiesa has earned a place in the slot rotation and Liverpool’s message is clear: there will be no departure in January.
