Liverpool’s summer transfer business is well and truly ongoing with Arne Slot moving around early.
The Premier League champion is approaching the signature of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremy Fripon, and has come to replace Trent Alexander Arnold, who has decided to leave the club this summer.
In addition to the new right-handed defender, the Reds are involved in a talk to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerquez, who is about to add depth to the left-back division.
The transfer business won’t stop there as Slot is trying to add creativity to his side.
Arne Slot wants more creativity
One of the players they’re targeting this summer is Lyon’s Rayan Cerki, who’s been in a vibrant shape for the French club this season.
His Lyon teammate Ainsley Maitland Niles describes the young Frenchman as “the best natural talent I’ve ever seen.”
L’Equipe said Lyon reportedly rated highly rated playmaker Rayan Cherki at 40 million euros (£34 million) prior to his summer transfer period.
The Reds are actively exploring options to strengthen their creative midfield, particularly the 10th place role.
Liverpool has two targets in mind.
While Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz continues to be the club’s top goal, Cherki is seriously considered a powerful alternative if the German genius contract turns out to be difficult or expensive.
A graduate of Lyon’s youth system, he made his senior debut at just 16 years old, and was subsequently impressed with his talent, close control and his ability to unlock defenses from central and wide positions.
His contract, approaching its final year, could also give suitors additional leverage to negotiations, potentially lowering prices or opening the door to structured deals with performance-based add-ons.
