It’s no secret that Liverpool is in the market for new strikers this summer.
The Reds are widely expected to bring someone to fill the gap likely to be left by Darwin Nunes, who is linked to the move to leave after a rather overwhelming stint at Anfield.
The attackers once again struggled to perform this season. When two managers like Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot fail to make the most of him, it is better for the club and the player to break up and move in different directions.
Nunes arrived in 2022 with a massive price tag and even greater expectations, but he managed only 40 goals in 138 appearances.
This is a poor record for strikers brought in to lead the line of top Premier League clubs like Liverpool.
According to journalist David Lynch, Merseyside Club is currently focusing on Victor Osimhen, one of the hottest fortunes in the transfer market.
The Nigerian attacker, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Naples, is expected to change the club this summer, with Premier League teams aware of his availability.
Lynch told the Anfield Index:
“For a moment, I don’t doubt he is someone Liverpool is paying attention to.”
“He has a great goal record and is an incredible age and there’s no doubt that he’ll fit in the Premier League.”
“There was all the talk about his wage demands. If they’re outrageous, I don’t know how Liverpool could do this.”
“But perhaps the Turkey season has made him realize how much he wants this move and that Liverpool will be an attractive destination.”
“It’s definitely not to rule out, but I feel like I need to shift on his behalf to get this done.”
“I don’t think Liverpool can get it at an affordable rate, especially compared to other strikers in the market, but that’s just a potential wage demand.”
From Victor Osimhen to Liverpool?
Osimhen has all the ingredients for a dream to sign Liverpool.
He’s fast, powerful, and knows how to find the back of the net. From a football perspective, he would be an incredible addition to the Liverpool team.
The financial aspect of this transaction is a major hurdle. Naples did not let him go cheap, and Osimen’s wage demands are reportedly urgent.
It would be hard to get this on the line unless Liverpool and the players’ camp can meet somewhere in the middle.
The Reds are following the striker who will replace club Nunes, one of which is Jonathan David.
