Where does Luka Donsic see his future after Mark Walter bought the Los Angeles Lakers from Jeannie Bass?
The Los Angeles Lakers are currently under new control. Yesterday, news broke that Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter bought the Lakers for $10 billion from Jeannie Bass and her family.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson had crossed the moon after hearing the news. Not only does he have a love for the Lakers, but he also has a close relationship with Walter, the Dodgers co-owner.
The Lakers are a huge moment for the Lakers as they are not owned by Bass’ family. Dr. Jerry Bass bought the team in 1979, and his family had been doing a great job as owner for 46 years.
But how do Luka Doncic and Lebron James feel about the sale? The recently acquired superstar shared her feelings through social media.
Luka Doncic used X to share his thoughts that Mark Walter had won the Los Angeles Lakers. He praised the organization for being absolutely stellar.
Donsic added excitement about meeting Mark and seeing what he would do as the owner. Similarly, he thanked Jeannie Bass for her hospitality and expressed his joy in her stay as a team governor.
“The Lakers are a great organization and I look forward to meeting Mark and being excited about the future.
“I am also grateful to have Jeannie and the Bass family in LA and I am pleased that Jeannie remains involved.
“We look forward to working together to win the championship!”
These comments suggest that Doncic will remain a Laker in the near future. Lakers fans will be delighted to see that Luka invested in the franchise a few months after she arrived.
After what Luka Doncic said publicly, the Lakers should have no doubts about their biggest priorities this offseason.
Rob Perinka must focus on Donsic and make sure he can make his team commit over the long term.
As things stand, Donsic will likely sign an extension with the Lakers. The Lakers will give you the opportunity to reassess things in a few years’ time with a free agency.
If the Lakers want to keep Don Chick happy and build around him, they have to do so quickly. A superstar could be the face of a franchise for 15 years if handled things correctly.
However, that’s not easy as the team wants to punish the Lakers for a Don Chic deal by forcing them to overpay their assets.
It’s a challenge and the front office has to face it head-on. But for now, they can do it with the comfort of knowing they have full support from Donsic.
