Magic Johnson reveals whether he liked an alternative path to his NBA career.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are undoubtedly the biggest rivalry in the NBA. Even today, the clash between the two teams is a highlight of the season.
Both the Lakers and Celtics had a significant share of NBA legends, but they wore jerseys, but Magic Johnson and Larry Bird had the most iconic rivalry.
The two stars regularly played against each other in the 1980s, and became a huge boom in the popularity of the NBA.
Decades after his retirement, Johnson holds a special place in the hearts of NBA fans thanks to his gorgeous playing style resonated with purple and gold.
But what happens if the magic is drafted by the Celtics? Well, the 5x NBA champion recently shared his filtering take on this hypothetical situation.
“Thank God that the basketball gods didn’t do that. That’s not true, magic, Hollywood, Showtime, everything went well. Larry Bird worked in Boston. Perfect, his game, he was him as a person and a man,” Johnson said in the fast break.
But what about the success factors?
“If you asked me, ‘Would we achieve the same success?” Larry Bird would have been successful in winning too.
“Pat Riley was very happy and knew how to use us all,” he added.
As Johnson explained, he was suited to the Showtime Lakers. He led his team to multiple NBA championships and enjoyed the bright lights of Hollywood.
Meanwhile, Bird enjoyed an incredible NBA stint, but playing for Boston was a completely different experience compared to LA.
Johnson’s play day may be over, but NBA legend continues to support the franchise who drafted him.
“To win is a victory. It’s a way of thinking. You can play it anywhere. But trust me, I have no dream of anything other than being in purple and gold. That’s all.
Johnson’s love for the LA Lakers is well known in the NBA community. He maintained a good relationship with the franchise and played several roles after his retirement in the NBA.
