Malcolm Wellmaker officially works for a day’s work.
After winning a UFC contract for Dana White’s contender series in August, “The Machine” made the most of his Kansas City promotional debut, delivering Cameron Sir Imon’s brutal knockout just below the opening round’s two-minute mark.
Despite landing gigs with the largest martial arts organization on the planet, Wellmaker chose to continue his full-time job as a welder. However, the Georgia native announced on social media Monday that he had left his job after depositing a $50,000 performance bonus in the bank for a highlight reel finish.
“A lot of people bought my story, so here’s an update. I stopped working! On Saturday night, I made my UFC debut, won a first round knockout and a $50,000 performance bonus. Today, I became a full-time fighter.” “In 2015, I joined Pipefitters Union in Augusta, my hometown, 150. Since then, I have worked full-time in trades while chasing my dreams.
“All my career, I vowed to quit my job if I arrived at the UFC and won a 50K bonus. Today, it finally happened. I’m always grateful for the trade.
“My goal now is to make the most of my time in the UFC by being fully committed to combat, and there’s no need to pick up the welding hood again, everything is my way.
After his explosive debut, Malcolm Wellmaker wants the UFC Atlanta card
After dealing zero damage in the UFC debut, Wellmaker will start returning to Octagon as soon as possible.
If he gets his wish, he will win a spot on the promotional UFC Atlanta Card on June 14th at State Farm Arena, just hours away from Wellmaker’s main entrance.
Wellmaker improved his overall record at UFC Kansas City to 9-0, with five wins knocked out and two more submitted.
