Manchester United have begun to find their shooting boots in recent weeks. The goals for this season are both former manager Eric Ten Hagg and his alternative Reuben Amorim, and have been an issue for the Red Devils this season.
However, in the final two games, the 13 Premier League champions had more joy in front of the goal. United found the back of the net seven times in their final two outings, beating Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford, leaving Leicester City 3-0 away from home.
Over the past few weeks, things have started to be picked up for United on the front line of scoring. They seem to want to continue this hot streak in front of the goal, linking with new strikers before the summer transfer period.
Man UTD strikers are targeting summer targets.
The Red Devils have no choice in the summer transfer market, which is said to be the target, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.
Transfer focus
Mega Money deals, controversial moves, famous flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinions across Football FanCust.
The reporter’s name checks two forwards as the player is “closely monitored” by the Red Devils. However, they are also targeting the French U21 international Hugo Echicchique in Entracht Frankfurt.
Plettenberg says Amorim’s part is “trying to bolster their offense in the summer,” with 22-year-old Ekitike being one of the names on the list.
Earlier in March, a report from French outlet L’Equpie linked United rival Liverpool to him, valuing the striker at an eye-opening £67 million.
It is still unclear whether this rating will stick to United, but it may be difficult to meet if they don’t make it to Europe next season.
How Ekitike compares to Rasmus Hojlund
It was an outstanding season for French striker Ekitique. He is an all-around center forward that can be scored and created.
The young striker has 19 goals and eight assists in 38 matches in all competitions, and was described as “one of Europe’s most informed attackers” at the beginning of the season by soccer talent scout Jacek Kulig.
Ekitique’s ability to link with players around him allowed him to see him explode on Amorum’s 3-4-2-1 system. He will play alongside Flying Wingback and Bruno Fernandez, two No. 10 in his new, deeper role. He certainly doesn’t have a shortage of services or players to link to.
Once the Red Devils close the deal, Ekitique could be a replacement for Rasmus Hozilund. Dane’s form has been disappointing this season, earning just eight goals and two assists in 39 games overall in the competition.
However, he managed to get on the scoresheet in his final game against Leicester. It was also a well-stolen strike.
Fernandez clipped the ball up and Hozilund controlled the ball and drove the shot past the goalkeeper into the lower left corner.
Well, Hozilund’s form is certainly a concern for United, and there are reports that Napoli could try to sign him this summer if the Old Trafford Club decides to cash him in. They are believed to want £50 million from the striker.
If United decides to sign Ekitike as a Hojlund alternative, statistics via FBREF for this season suggest that it will be an upgrade. For example, the Frenchman averages 0.62 goals and 3.78 shot creation actions per game, compared to Hojlund’s 0.29 goals and 1.9 shot creation actions per game.

As goal-scoring numbers and underlying statistics suggest, the sensational Frankfurt star will be a major upgrade for Hozilund for United. The Frenchman has been in great shape this season and cannot stop scoring.
The price of around £67 million is expensive, but it could be the perfect investment for the Red Devils to reach the next level.
