Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is currently personally requesting that he sign as an alternative to the “incredible” goalkeeper, according to the report.
Guardiola was unhappy with the exit of the Shock Club World Cup
Few would have predicted the exit for the Blues Shock Club World Cup at the hands of Al Giral, especially considering Guardiola’s side looked like an old town with a 5-2 victory in Juventus’ final group.
However, Al Gillal ended up making it to the quarterfinals courtesy of a 4-3 victory, with Ederson making two saves during the match, continuing from the 2024-25 campaign, which fell below Brazil’s high standards.
Roy Keene was particularly critical of the goalkeeper last season, claiming he was “running away with murder,” and suggested Guardiola should consider dropping six Premier League winners.

The Red Devils are currently in contact to move forward and are willing to match the current club’s asking price.
Importantly, Guardiola is deeply unhappy with the exit of the Club World Cup on his side, and is also tired of Ederson’s performance, according to reports from Spain, who say he wants to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Therefore, PEP is currently personally requesting the signature of FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Diogo Costa is protected by the contract’s 75 million euro (£65 million) release clause.
Costa will be able to leave the Portuguese club this summer despite the contract being signed until 2027. The goalkeeper is eager to test himself at the elite level before the 2026 World Cup.
Guardiola considers Portugal International to be a perfect player and is suitable for his style of play. Bruce is now moving to secure his signature, and trade could accelerate in the coming weeks.
“Incredible” Costa is touching by the club and the country
International teammate Diogo Darott has been extremely impressed with the shot stopper in the past. “I think the secret of Portugal is Diogo Costa, who is the most hidden secret in European football and he has appeared today.
“I think he’s reached a completely different level today. The one-on-one situation was incredible. And he focused on making three consecutive saves. We need to be very proud of him.”
Not only did the 25-year-old look to his country, he has maintained a very impressive percentage of clean sheets compared to other goalkeepers over the past year, playing at the highest level of Porto.
Key Goalkeeping Metric | Average per 90 |
Clean sheet percentage | 50% (95th percentile) |
Opposite goal | 0.84 (90th percentile) |
Although Adason’s performance is related to PEP, it will be a difficult task to replace Brazilian International. He has played a major role in the city’s recent success, but Costa has proven that he could become a valuable heir amongst the sticks.
