The goalkeeping position may require some attention from both Liverpool and Manchester City during the summer transfer period.
The Premier League Giants could lose their goalkeeper this summer and were able to force a new signature in that position.
Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to leave Premier League leaders for more playing time, but Pep Guardiola could potentially offload the likes of Ederson and Stephen Ortega for the new goalkeeper on his starting line.
Former England and Liverpool goalkeeper David James publicly urged the city to pursue 26-year-old Irishman Kelleher, citing his calm, experiences in high pressure situations and suitability to Guardiola’s tactical system.
Kelleher expressed his desire for regular first-team football, saying, “In the last few years I have made it clear that I want to go out and play in a week of the week.”
Alison Becker was firmly established as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper, and the imminent arrival of Georgia’s international Giorgi Mamaldashvili looks to have limited opportunities for Keleher at Anfield.
James said as reported by Goal:
“Khaoimhin has that calm about him.
“He can’t flare wings. He won trophies, which is a big deal. He knows how to enter those positions to win trophies.
“If Liverpool needs to move one goalkeeper and Man City might need one.
“You know, you probably don’t even have to move because it’s just 45 minutes down the road. You don’t often see such a move between the two title rivals, but I think this will benefit all involved.”
Man City Keylor?
The potential move towards Man City is controversial and has attracted much attention given the rarity of direct transfers between top Premier League rivals.
Kelleher’s potential departure has attracted interest from several clubs, including West Ham United, Chelsea and Bournemouth.
Liverpool is reportedly seeking transfer fees of between £20 million and £30 million for the goalkeeper.
Man City is ready to spend 200 million euros on the exchange of Kevin de Bruin
