Man United appears to be in the market for new goalkeepers due to Andre Onan’s overwhelming performance over the past 12-18 months. At this stage, it appears that Emi Martinez is the main target for the position.
Onana has struggled since moving to Old Trafford and with a big change expected in Ruben Amorim’s team, he could be one of the players moving forward. And if he goes, Man United wants to replace him with Martinez.
Martinez, who joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020, is set to leave this summer, attracting interest from Saudi clubs, but is more likely than staying in Europe. And there are all the opportunities in the move to Man United.
Emi Martinez is being pursued strongly by Man United
According to a soccer insider, Man United is in regular contact with Martinez and his representative as they aim to agree to the 32-year-old individual terms. If they can do that, their hope is that they can finalize the deal in the coming weeks.
But it may not be easy for Man United to persuade Martinez. Another report from Football Insider said the World Cup winners are looking to move to Atletico Madrid, where they link to fellow Argentina, including Diego Simeone and Julian Alvarez.
It will be interesting to see how Martinez’s situation unfolds. Aston Villa is ready to sell, but is expected to demand fees in the £40 million region, as it does not put pressure on it to do so. This can sometimes be out of reach for Man United unless they can pinpoint the sales needed to balance the book.
