Man United and Chelsea are looking to add defensive quality to their teams for the upcoming season, and they are aligning the same goals in their efforts to achieve this goal during the summer transfer period.
Man United was incredibly leaky last season, with goalkeeper Andre Onana taking a lot of responsibility, but their defense was subpar as well. Meanwhile, Chelsea hopes new centre-backs will be brought in to compete with others like Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.

And according to El Chingate Rock (via Football Espania), both clubs are aiming for Eimeric Laport. Man United has already made an offer to representatives of Spain International, but Chelsea is said to be monitoring the situation ahead of any possible moves during the summer transfer period.
Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Napoli presented their proposals to Laporte’s agents. And if the Premier League move is what he wants, he has the opportunity to do it.
Laporte was a favorite during his time at Man City, so if he moved to Man United it would have sourly exhausted his relationship with his club supporters. But from the perspective of the people at Old Trafford, it would be a great signing, as the 31-year-old showed he could still compete at the highest level during Euro 2024 last summer.
Al-Nassr spent 27 million euros to sign Laporte from Man City. They are believed to be trying to regain that amount this summer to encourage his departure. That fee should be reasonably priced for Man United or Chelsea, but in the former case you probably need to sell first.
