Manchester United have been linked with Adam Wharton, and new reports suggest Fabrizio Romano has clarified Palace’s stance and a potential United move.
Wharton has already attracted attention from several big clubs due to his promising performances at Crystal Palace, but a move in January seems unlikely given his firm position with the Eagles.
However, rumors of a summer signing persist, with United still on the list.
Wharton quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most talented young midfield players.
His performances have attracted the attention of several top clubs, including Man United, who see him as a potential long-term engine in their midfield rebuild.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Man United’s interest in Wharton
Fabrizio Romano, one of the leading voices in transfer journalism, has suggested that Crystal Palace have no intention of making a deal in January.
Romano added that discussions about Wharton could resurface in the summer, when Palace may be open to transfer talks.
He said on his Youtube channel:
“Palace are not going to negotiate for January.
“They want Adam Wharton to stay at the club and play a very important role in the story.
“Then we’ll see if Wharton is there in the summer transfer window of 2026, probably after the World Cup. He has a chance.
“Palace will assess the player’s situation based on the proposal.
“We have a lot of links with Man United and I can confirm that Man United think highly of their players, but it’s not just Man United.
“Believe me, several clubs rate this kid highly. He’s really valued. He’s considered one of the best talents in his position in England.
“And certainly there is interest from Man United, but beyond that, nothing has been finalized in terms of a bid or numbers at the moment.
“As you can see, at this stage we have 30 million, 40 million, 50 million, nothing. Palace are very focused with the players this season and the players are very focused with Palace this season.
“So, at the moment, things are very quiet. It’s normal to have an assessment from some clubs, not just United, but again, I think it’s premature to make a story about this at this stage.”
“Let’s clarify the Adam Wharton situation.”
Wharton could transform United’s midfield
I can understand Palace’s position, and releasing him midway through the season could weaken the team significantly.
Retaining Wharton will help the club aim to finish higher in the league and compete in Europe.
The summer months provide more time and planning and a better environment to achieve a deal that satisfies all parties.
With United actively searching for a new midfielder, Wharton is someone who can control their midfield and could prove to be a key addition to their side.
With players like Koby Mainu and Casemiro facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford, Wharton is being looked at as a possible replacement for them.
