It may feel strange following the 15th Premier League defeat of Sunday afternoon’s season, but following a potentially significant week on and off the field, there is a growing sense of optimism at Manchester United.
Of course, on Thursday night, the Red Devils completed a bernstorming shift against Lyon, moving on to the final four of the Europa League, with Reuben Amorim approaching European glory and potential Champions League qualifying.
Even the weekend defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers was somewhat overshadowed by the outstanding display of Tyler Fredrickson, the club’s latest academy debutant.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, last week provided a positive update on Amado Diallo’s injury rehabilitation.
The latest on Amad’s injury return
Except for Bruno Fernandez – again leading the way in goal and assists at Old Trafford – the shining light of 2024/25 is AMAD, with the 22-year-old giving 12 goals and assists in just 20 games in 20 games after Amorim’s arrival.

Statistics through the Transfer Market |
From his late heroic against both Manchester City and Liverpool to his stunning hat-trick against Bottomside Southampton, the former Atalanta starlet repeatedly stepped up in the early months of his actual breakthrough campaign on an individual basis.
Annoyed by all involved, the weekly winger who signed a new contract in January was revoked by an ankle issue in early February, and Amorim appears to have ruled out him at that point.
The former sports CP boss has since suggested that Amado could actually return before the campaign ends. This is a fact that was reinforced by images of young people in training last week.
Amorim suggested that his upstart is not ready to feature in April, but that his return could be a good one in May.
A welcome sight is the signature of an equally exciting young talent this summer, with United appearing to be bolstering searches for the next big thing from around the world.
A man ready to sign the teenage sense this summer
It took a while to make it happen, but United are beginning to enjoy the reward of picking Amado as a teenager from Italy in October 2020, with the then 17-year-old who would eventually arrive in January 2021 on a £19 million deal, potentially reaching a £37 million add-on.
Transfer focus
Mega Money deals, controversial moves, famous flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinions across Football FanCust.
That relatively expensive transaction appears to be repeated in the near future. Ineo is Franco Mustantouno, a reporter who is ready to trigger a £38 million release clause for the river board sense.
The 17-year-old is believed to be closely monitored by the people of Old Trafford and appears to have to act quickly to win the race amidst the interests of rivals such as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Inter.
The report argues that Argentinean costumes are keen to stick to teenage diamonds, but “serious bids” from Manchesters are likely to close the transaction.
Why does man utd want to sign Franco Mustantouno?
Diego Leon, who had already looked at the South American market to sign a fullback for Paraguayan, appears ready to add to that deal to the signing of another potential superstar in the form of Mustantoono ahead of next season.
Like Amad before him, in his comparison with Manchester City’s Philfoden, he was likened to Papu Gomez, who was likened to Lionel Messi by Atalanta teammate Papu Gomez before joining United.
The left-footed attacker, like both Foden and Amado, who can manipulate in Frank, or as a number of ten, is hailed as a “creative genius” by analyst Ben Matinson, following the beginning of life at the senior level.
The 17-year-old Argentine Under-20 International has 53 appearances for his current current side with his first team, and his regular involvement has seen him choke up his 11 goals and assists so far.
What particularly stands out for the teenagers is not just his ability to create opportunities for his teammates, but also his innate ball-carrying ability, as evidenced by the fact that he averaged 2.3 key passes and successful dribbling around 2.9 games in the 2025 league.
To put that in perspective, it puts the talent in demand just before Amado in that respect, accounting for an average of 1.8 and 1.6 on the same two metrics in 2024/25 respectively.
Like Ivorian, it may not be expected that Mastantuono will soon run in a unified shirt and hit the ground, but all the signs point to him as a future star, with Mattinson realising that there is a “shade of Kevin de Bruyne” about him.
It appears to fit perfectly into one of the 10 roles of two numbers in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, but the £38 million playmaker appears to be worth the investment despite the eye-catching nature of the price.
After years of burning with short-term and expensive signatures, the Red Devils now have to do something else.
