Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone confirmed that Liverpool is one of the clubs interested in signing Julian Alvarez this summer.
Speaking about the growing speculation, Simeone confirmed the interest of the top clubs of star attackers, but he also claimed that Alvarez was “ours.”
Darwin Nunes’s departure, which has struggled with consistency since his arrival from Benfica, has allowed him to open the door for the famous replacement.
Liverpool will need to replace Nunes this summer
If Nunes leaves, Diogo Jota will stand as the only natural striker at slot freedom.
The Reds, already securing Jeremy Fripon from Bayer Leverkusen in a £29.5 million deal, are on the verge of completing a club’s record move by Frimont’s teammate Florian Wiltz.
Liverpool is also in negotiations with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerquez as Arne Slot begins to rebuild his team with his vision.
Despite acknowledging interest from several top clubs, including Liverpool, in Alvarez’s signature, Simeone confirmed that his club needs to protect him.
He said:
“All clubs want to sign Julian Alvarez.”
“That’s logical. You can’t imagine any other way. Of course, all the top clubs want him. Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, and everything. And for us, for Atletico fans, it’s a point of pride that everyone wants. Of course, it’s not just for him.
“He’s 25 years old and an extraordinary player. He’s a ridiculous, humble, hardworking, goalscorer and full of class.”
With improvements under the slots going on, landing Alvarez’s caliber players will significantly increase Liverpool’s offensive options and show their intention to challenge both domestically and Europe again.
Arne Slot is looking for a new number 9
However, signing Alvarez might prove difficult this summer as the Spanish giants are willing to not enjoy their offer to him.
The former Manchester City man scored 29 goals last season, making him one of the best players in LA La Liga.
The Reds are also linked to the move of Arsenal target Benjamin Sesco, who frantically tried to make the slots to sign a new striker this summer.
Their dream signature remains as Newcastle United’s Alexander Isaac, but he may be out of their reach this summer.
