How is the continuing this?
Call it elite scouting, player development, eye on talent, or divine intervention. However, the front office has a real preference for unearthing productive pitching out of nowhere.

The most recent example is Jack Dreyer. This is the perfect idea when fans were excitedly creating what the first day roster looked like. After all, Dreyer is a 26-year-old left-handed man with no previous MLB experience.
Since being called out for the Tokyo Series, there have been no more effective pitchers on the roster. Manager Dave Roberts spoke sparkly about Dreyer during his regular media scrum.
“He just doesn’t seem to flap his wings,” Roberts said. “There’s no situation I’ve seen before. That’s too big for him. He’s got good things, he’s ordering baseball, fastball, breaking balls. He’s been really nice.”
As of April 17th, he has the lowest era of the entire team (0.75). It’s not even an insignificant sample size. Dreyer pitched 12 innings and allowed only three hits while hitting 16.
According to baseball’s Savant, Dreyer ranks above the 95th percentile in pitching runvalue, fastball runvalue, XERA, XBA and hard hit rates. In other words, he is attacking a lot of people, allowing soft contacts otherwise.
Mainly, the Dreyer is a two-pitch pitcher who relies heavily on four-seam fastballs and sliders (occasionally curveballs). The rise and movement of the fastball in the drape is particularly exciting. So far, he has not been allowed to hit one time on a fastball thrown this year. Plus, his slider accounts for more than half of the strikeouts he has made.
As mentioned earlier, this is another weapon that the seem to be more clear than anyone’s expectations. If Dreyer continues pitching at this level, there’s no doubt that he will become a fixture within the bullpen during this regular season.
