Manchester United are reportedly preparing a January offer to sign their beloved midfield star, with Ruben Amorim set to keep his job at Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe defends Manchester United job cuts
INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe defended his decision to make a number of redundancies earlier this year after revealing he intended to give Amorim up to three years to make his mark at Manchester United. The British billionaire insisted that the key to success was profitability, citing United Airlines’ recent record profits as an example.
“There are two sides to a football team: the business side and the sports side. Like it or not, the biggest correlation between results and external factors is profitability.
“The more cash you have, the better you can build a team. It’s like cars in F1 – the better you can build a car, the faster you can go. The better the team, the better the football should be.”
“So a lot of what we’ve done in the first year is we’ve spent a tremendous amount of time putting the club on a sustainable and healthy footing. If you look at our results last year, we’re at our highest ever revenue. Our profitability is our second highest ever.”
Sadly, while things are starting to improve off the pitch, the situation on the pitch remains dire. Amorim’s side have won just two of their seven Premier League games and have yet to even win consecutive league games under the former Sporting manager.
Alarm bells have been ringing throughout the season, but Amorim continues to keep faith in INEOS. Indeed, rather than sack the manager, the minority owners are reportedly prepared to back him again in the transfer market and could even bring in their favorite midfielder in 2026.
Manchester United preparing offer for Wheeler
According to reports in Spain, Man United are currently preparing an offer of 60 million euros (approximately 5.2 billion yen) for Morten Hulmand from Sporting Club. The Danish midfielder has developed under Amorim at Sporting and could become the first player to complete a move from his former club to Old Trafford in 2026.
Amorim also never hesitated to praise the 26-year-old. The Manchester United manager told reporters after his last game as Sporting manager, a 4-2 win with Yurmand’s goal. “It was a great goal from a great player and captain who joined Sporting a year ago.”
Yurmand, the leader the Red Devils are perhaps missing, will slot straight into Amorim’s midfield next to Manuel Ugarte, allowing Bruno Fernandes to return to an upper-level role in the process.
League statistics 25/26 | conductor | Fernandez |
|---|---|---|
minutes | 720 | 626 |
progressive path | 50 | 61 |
tackle win | 13 | 7 |
ball collection | 50 | 43 |
In comparison, the Dane’s defensive traits stand out, and they will allow one of the best midfielders in the world to play his best role under Amorim. If United can secure his contract for just £52m, signing Yurmand would be a no-brainer.
