Manchester United have been frequently linked with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson in recent months. The 23-year-old midfielder joined Forest from Newcastle in 2024 and has since impressed, rising his stock significantly and earning him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
According to timesUnited are unlikely to make a bid for Anderson in January, but they will need him to replace Casemiro in the summer.
The Brazilian veteran will be 34 by then and given his annual salary of around £18m at Old Trafford, the club are not expected to trigger a one-year extension to his free contract. Casemiro is therefore set to leave the 20-time English champions, with his journey likely heading to Saudi Arabia, where it is believed he could choose from some very lucrative offers.
Of course, one thing that could have a big impact on United’s efforts is competition. Liverpool are also said to be keeping a close eye on Anderson, with Newcastle also said to be keen to bring him back to St James’ Park.
If Manchester United decide to end their pursuit of Anderson at any point, they will likely turn their attention to Brighton’s Carlos Baleva.
