The Los Angeles have had one major rival since the late 1800s, and that is the San Francisco giant. The rivalry began when the were in Brooklyn and the Giants were in New York, but the bitterness continued to the West Coast when both franchises moved to California in 1958.
In recent seasons, the San Diego Padres emerged as a split competitor, dating back to the first postseason matches in both teams’ history in 2020, creating some fierce battles.

Snation’s Doug McCain has now come to ask the Padres’ 3 base hand Manny Machado during All-Star Game Press availability if they believe the two teams are rivals.
“It’s great baseball,” replied Machado.
Machado is correct in his ratings, but this June, the latest chapter in the Padres tension featured two teams who play seven times in 10 games. It didn’t create a shortage of drama where stars were hit on the pitch, as halted on the high octane baseball, and both managers and players.
Machado spoke about the two teams in mid-June, saying they were rivals at the time.
“This game is crazy, yes, this rivalry. It’s an exchange,” Machado said. “To compete, things get hot. You want to go out there and compete.”
Tensions seem to be the highest ever, but after the classic midsummer festival, there is still plenty of baseball left.
The will once again take on the Padres on August 15th, playing six games in 10 games, then heading for the Colorado Rockies for four games and San Diego to close the gauntlet.
The Friars are currently returning from the in NL West in 5.5 games, with the rival Giants sitting in six games in Los Angeles.
