Second place in the Netherlands MotoGP was Marco Bezzecchi and the new aviation technique of Aprilia RS-GP.
Betzekki attempted a new aerodynamic featured a modification of the wings located on the side of the seat unit for the first time on Sunday morning in a Motog warm-up session, following a positive review by Lorenzo Sabadri on Saturday.
Bezzecchi said the new aerodynamics are similar to previous versions, but it took a step forward.
“The new aero is very similar to the old aero,” explained Marco Betzecki at a post-race press conference at Assen.
“It’s certainly a step. It helps in some places of riding, but that was for the work I did in the riding style, especially in sector 3.
“I made mistakes on the line in order (Saturday) as well as on turns 10 and 11, especially on Fridays.
“So yesterday evening I tried to work on this and study everything to adjust the video, data, and that area from other riders. Then I came out of a very strong (turn) 11, so I think this was key.
“But it wasn’t enough to just overtake the Mark.”
Paolo Bonora told Motogp.com after the Flag Review Show at Assen at Assen that Savadori input on Saturday was important for Aprilia to decide to try out new aerodynamics on Sunday morning.
“It’s true that we have to take risks because our competitors and this championship is at such a high level, so we have to take risks,” said Aprilia Racing Team Manager.
“But to be honest, there’s (double) confirmation of the one step forward these aerodynamics give to the bike, as they have seen Lorenzo’s comments about the data.
“So we were pretty confident in bringing new solutions to the bike.
“To be honest, I’d also like to check it out from Marco (Betzekki)’s side. After the warm-up, he said, ‘We’re holding it.’ ”
