Mark Marquez’s victory at the Italian Grand Prix was followed by podium boos from Italian fans.
The Ducati Lenovo team riders faced boos at the podium ceremony after Saturday’s sprint, and team manager Tardozzi was planning to stand up to fans in the stands on the main straight.
The point of Tardozzi was that in the fan conflict, the Spaniards’ victory was a victory for Ducati and even Italy, as Mark Marquez is currently riding his factory Ducati.
That was what Marquez said – after Sunday’s race, and then both Mark Marquez and Alex Marquez were booed during the podium sequence – he thanked.
“In the end, that’s something we can’t control,” Mark Marquez said at a post-race press conference for the booing he received at Italy’s MotoGP.
“I can’t control it, but I’m grateful for the gestures from Davide Tardozzi who tried to protect.
“In the end, David isn’t defending me. He’s defending the Ducati rider. It will be me, Pecco (Francesco Bagnaia), Bastianini, Miller.
“He was a really good team manager and he was protecting me.
“He was supporting the people who were rooting for Pecco, because it was good in the end, and for the other riders, it was good that they were singing Pecco’s name, which is good.
“Booing, it’s something you can’t control in the end.
“But, for example, when Alex (Marquez) came on the podium, they were booing a part of him. Alex only has his last name. He didn’t do anything wrong.”
