Mark Marquez responded to the disappointment of the Spanish Grand Prix by setting the pace at Monday’s Geres Motogupt.
The day after the second race crash of the season, the factory Ducati star was the fastest in both sessions in official testing.
“The good thing is that the test was right after (Sunday’s mistake),” Marquez said. “We were able to see a good feeling from the weekend. We were fast all day.”
With his younger brother and Spanish Grand Prix winner Alex Marquez currently sitting one point behind in the world championship rankings, Mark focused on Monday’s small improvements, including front-end sensations, electronics and Michelin tire pieces.
“We had a lot of things and a long plan. It’s not a big new item, but there are always small details,” he explained. “Some of them have just tried again since their last test in Thailand. But the emotions were good all day.”
Some key areas have been reexamining several electronic settings for the preseason. This said that Marquez was not properly evaluated because it focused on choosing the “concept” of GP24 and GP25.
“I tried Michelin tires. I don’t know which race (MotoGP) will be introducing. And I retry the electronic ones I had in the preseason, but I couldn’t try again here by (determining) the concept of the GP25-24.
Despite the heavy workload, Marquez confirmed that he remained in Ducati’s latest chassis without going back to the old frame. “No, we ride the same concept and the same thing,” he said.
He was asked if he used the opportunity to ride behind teammate Francesco Bagnaia after crashing in the puck during Sunday’s race. “Just one lap. That run, Pecco was riding in the ’39s and coming in the ’37s.
Marquez was the only rider in the Test at 1m 35, with KTM’s Maverick Vinal second behind 0.361 seconds behind, while Yamaha’s Fabio Quartaralo was third (0.477S).
The next round will take place in Le Mans in two weeks.
