England leave with 172 points
Ben Stokesโ team won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They got off to a terrible start losing the first over for a duck to Zac Crawley, but from there on they fought hard.
Harry Brook, Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett were the only batsmen who played decently and looked good in the middle order, but the rest struggled. The bowler who troubled the England team the most was veteran Mitchell Starc.
Mitchell Starc returned with career-best figures of 7/58 as Australia defeated the England team for 172 in 32.5 overs.
After the innings, former England bowler Alex Hartley expressed his disappointment at the poor batting show of the England team. However, she was quick to praise Mitchell Starcโs exceptional bowling performance in Perth. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sport Extra, she said:
โIt was disappointing. Being bowled out in the 33rd over was terrible. England just fell into the pile and Australia came out on top. You canโt take anything away from Mitchell Starcโs innings. What a performance.โ
Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan said he was furious at the England teamโs display of brainless buzzball. he said:
โIt was a brainless buzz ball. If you look at the last dismissal, it was six in England. Here in Australia, the boundaries are maximum size and they have to think about the shots they are playing.โ
