Muncie has recorded more than 30 homerun seasons multiple times throughout his career, and his explosive batting has helped the multiple times.
Perhaps Muncie’s clutch moment staple is his epic bat flip, one of the best in major league baseball. The 34-year-old broke Snation’s Doug McCain and bat flip.
“I don’t know, it just happens. That’s one thing I’ve never thought about,” Muncie said. “I’ve never said I’d do this. I’ve never planned to do anything. They happen just in the moment. A lot of them tend to be based on emotions.”
Against the New York Mets, Muncie hit two home runs, including a game-tying blast in LA’s 6-5 comeback victory on June 3.
“After making that stupid mistake early, we were able to get us back into the game… that’s where emotions come out,” Muncie said. “It’s really how they’ve happened in the past. Depending on the situation in the game, there’s a bit of emotion behind it. Anything comes out.”
This season, Muncy 28 games reached his first home run. The were patient with the third baseman, but trusted that his achievements would ultimately be realized.
Muncy began the year when he hit .180 with a home run, four RBIs and a .531 OPS. He is currently hitting .234 with nine home runs, 35 RBI and .770 OPS.
As Muncie starts to warm up, there will be more epic bat flips in the near future.
