Max Verstappen and Laurent Mekies have released their first statements after Red Bull’s removal of Christian Horner.
Horner left his job Wednesday morning after the F1 British Grand Prix, finishing his incredible legacy with the team.
It adds even more complexity to questions about the future of Red Bull star driver Verstappen.
Meki, who led Red Bull’s sister Racing Bulls, has been confirmed as a replacement for the Horner.
The first words of Max Verstappen after Horner’s exit was posted on his social media accounts.
“From my first race victory to the four world championships, we shared incredible success,” he said.
“I’ll win memorable races and break countless records. Thank you for everything, Christian!”
Horner oversaw all four of Verstappen’s Formula 1 driver championships.
Verstappen and Red Bull won the top spot in Formula 1 at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix contest, bordering Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton on the title in a controversial way.
From there, their dominance grew together, and Verstappen is now established as the best driver on the grid.
However, his free-to-use machines have lost competitiveness, and Verstappen is behind Oscar Piastri and Rand Norris in driver rankings this year.
His contract has exit clauses that could lead to departures from Red Bull.
Mercedes is keen to have a strong interest as they want the best possible car in 2026.
However, with Horner gone, a new era begins with Red Bull, allowing us to force a rethink from Verstappen.
Laurent Mekies vows to “achieving great results” for Red Bull

Laurent Mekies
That era will be led by Mekies, who has been promoted from the Racing Bulls team.
Mekies’ first statement in his new job said:
“Looking at the future, we are excited to take on the role of CEO and Team Principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing, one of the most successful and dynamic teams in the sport.
“It is an honor to be part of this incredible group of people embodying the spirit of Red Bull.
“We achieve great results based on the incredible legacy that Christian Horner has left over during his 20 years of service.”
Mekies is used to the driver changes that can occur within Red Bull Stable.
He began the season with Yuki Tsunoda before a swap involving Liam Lawson.
Mekies will scrutinise further his position as the boss of such a high-profile team.
Stepping into Horner’s shoes would prove to be quite a challenge.
Horner leaves Red Bull after 20 years of responsibilities, including two golden ages (in the case of Sebastian Vettel, in the case of Verstappen).
He was the principal of the longest service team until his departure.
