McLaren is supported by the side of the Oscar Piastri after showing that he can overtake Max Verstappen at the F1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Piastri claimed his third victory in five races on another outstanding drive in Jeddah to move to the World Championship lead 10 points ahead of McLaren teammate Rand Norris.
Australia took advantage of the penalty issued to Verstappen for leaving the track during the incident at the start of the race and gaining benefits.
And Piastri was impressed with former Formula One driver Johnny Herbert for his mental strength, speed and consistency.
“Oscar Piastri was able to show that he could overtake Max Verstappen,” Herbert told Beste Online Casino Nederland.
“His mental strength, speed, his consistency and his racetrack have been really impressive this season, he shows himself so well and he’s very calm on the radio.
“Piastri does the work he needs to win this year’s championship, and he has the same mental strength as Verstappen.
“Piastry’s mental abilities are extraordinary. Mark Weber has done a great job managing him. They seem to understand and respect each other very well, which helped them make the most of Piastry in the cockpit.
“Weber is in a difficult and tough situation. He’s learned you need to have a team on your side. It looks like McLaren is siding a little more with the Piastri.”
Rand Norris says “too many mistakes”
In contrast, Herbert believes Norris is making too many errors, who began the season as a favorite to win the Verstappen crown.
Britton was forced to take a damage limit recovery drive to the fourth in Jeddah after leaving him to 10th in the grid due to a crash in qualifying.
“Rand Norris is sadly making too many mistakes,” Herbert said. “Saudi Arabia’s qualifying was a prime example.
“It was a bit unlucky, but when you went to that curb at that speed, you finished. Is it the pressure to get to Norris? Yes? But all the drivers have that pressure and can handle it better than the other drivers, but he feels he can get back into the fight because he’s so fast.
“Piastri just made a big mistake in Melbourne, but it was a situation where rain was pouring down on certain parts of the corner of the truck at the purely wrong time.
“These mistakes Norris is making can hurt your championship hopes, but don’t forget, he started 10th and finished fourth. It was still an amazing drive.
“But since last season I’ve learned that I have to do well to give myself the best chance to win the championship.”
