Raul Zimenez was a Mexican hero. His goal sent his country into the fourth straight Gold Cup final after beating Honduras 1-0 at Levi’s stadium.

Jimines acquired Javier Aguirre’s team target in the 50th minute, and Mexico now faces the US in the eighth final they met in a showpiece match.

Proving to be a nervous first half, Marcel Lewis was closest to opening up a score for Mexico, but he saw his efforts being successfully saved to his left by Edrik Menziber.

However, five minutes after the restart, Jimenez defeated the deadlock with a fine finish in the left corner, supporting the goals of talented teenager Gilberto Mora.

In fact, 262 days ago, 16 and Mora became the youngest player to provide assistance in the Gold Cup since 2013.

Edson Albaraz then refused the goal four minutes late due to offside, but Honduras couldn’t threaten his comeback as Mexico saw the victory comfortably.

Data Debrief: Defense Winning Championship

Jimenez has once again proven to be a Mexican hero. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory in his career with the National Team, including the sixth Gold Cup (2019, 2023 against Trinidad and Tobago).

As a result, Mexico reached the 12th Gold Cup final. This was second only to the US (13), beating Guatemala in the other semi-finals of the contest.

Aguirre (2009, 2025) is the second manager to lead Mexico to multiple Gold Cup finals after such Geraldo Martino in 2019 and 2021.

Mexico has held a clean sheet in their fifth consecutive knockout round match in the Gold Cup, and will have to do their best in the finals, comparable to the longest winning streak in competitive history set from 1993-98.
