The Miami Heat has yet to say goodbye to Andrew Wiggins, putting the situation at risk for another Jimmy Butler.
The Miami Heat finds themselves in a unique position heading into a new season. For the first time in almost 20 years, the Heat doesn’t have a Superstar player in the book.
The fever swapped Jimmy Butler for the Golden State Warriors in February. The saga lasted much longer than it should have been, and honestly, it cost a heat-enhancing package.
In return for Jimmy Butler, the Warriors acquired Andrew Wiggins from the Golden State Warriors. However, many people felt that he wasn’t long for the team.
Wiggins has been linked with the Lakers for the past few months. However, fever appears to be reluctant to hand him over. This is a sign that they are making the same mistakes as Jimmy Butler.
According to Clutchpoint’s Brett Siegel, the Miami Heat is not planning to trade Andrew Wiggins for the La Lakers yet.
Instead, they want to wait and see how he plays before making a decision. This means that if Wiggins doesn’t work the same way, the Heat will lose leverage in negotiations.
“Since he traded with the Miami Heat, Wiggins has been involved in many trade chats this offseason.
“These rumors from July have emerged again before training camp and preseason, particularly involving the Lakers’ long-standing interest in the 3-and-D Wing.
“Now, the heat doesn’t hold much of a desire to trade Wiggins and operates under the mindset of waiting for the first few months of the regular season to see how things unfold, sources said.
“Miami holds a high asking price for its previous First Overall All Pick, something the Lakers were willing to meet.”
There is no doubt that Andrew Wiggins is a talented, two-way wing. And given his previous All-Star nominations and championship experiences, he is an invaluable experience.
However, having a fever in Miami is extremely dangerous. The heat doesn’t rule him out, but they want him to play well enough to increase his worth.
Wiggins is talented enough to stand up at the opportunity, but we rarely see him on a bad team. And based on his numbers in the heat last season, that shows he’s not that good.
In 17 games for The Heat, Wiggins averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists. These numbers are very disappointing when compared to his stint in Golden State, given that he’s getting more touches.
