Did Colby Covington fight?
Back at the UFC Atlanta Octagon this weekend, Michael Chiesa will square with fellow TUF alumni court McGee in a fight where hardcore MMA fans salivating.
But that’s not the conflict that Chiesa wanted.
Following last year’s third submission victory over Max Griffin, “Maverick” called out Covington. It sounded like a good idea for everyone, like TUF 33 coaches Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen.
Michael Chiesa says Covington is more focused on streaming than fighting
The match even seemed to gain some traction among UFC matchmakers and executives, but according to Chiesa, the hardcore MAGA supporters ultimately declined.
“I’m not sure if I can really leak a lot, but the power of that is what I like. Chael and DC really liked it. “I think he’ll go in a different direction in his career. I think being a streamer is something he’s pursuing right now. He doesn’t have the desire to compete as much as he used to.”
“So it’s just time to go ahead and let him do what he wants to do. If he fights again, he’ll fight again,” Chiesa added. “I’m focusing on Court McGee and I’m leaving him out of the equation.” That’s his loss and his loss of fans, as he brings a lot of heat in the way he builds up his fight.
“He’s a nice guy off the camera, a camera dick.”
After a six-month shortage where “Chaos” saw four of the last six fall within Octagon, the original three-time UFC title challenger appears to be more interested in streaming and playing poker than competing.
However, despite his victory and lack of activity, Covington still holds the top 10 spots in the welterweight division, becoming the main target for fighters looking to break through in the division.
