Michael Dunlop says he has “too long” teeth to race at the UK Superbike Championship, but admits he may have wanted to offer the short circuit series “A Shot.”
Dunlop has participated in short circuit races here and there throughout his career, including SuperSport class BSB, as he did last year.
However, unlike many of the road racing rivals such as Peter Hickman, Davy Todd and Dean Harrison, the Ballymanny guy has never made a serious effort into the BSB campaign, instead focusing on the roads of the race program.
Now the 33-time Man TT winner feels he’s too old to start putting in more substantial effort on British superbikes, despite feeling he could “put a decent fee of half.”
“It’s too long in the teeth right now,” Dunlop said when he spoke to BBC SportsNI and was asked if he would consider racing at BSB.
“That’s tough. Did you miss that boat? Definitely.”
Dunlop admitted that he never tried to make anything happen with BSB, but might have wanted to.
“But have I been looking for it? Probably not. Maybe I wanted to take a bit of shot of it,” he said.
“As time goes by, there’s no reason to spend a bit of time doing BSB and spend half a decent fee.”
Dunlop enjoys another successful year on the road.
He claimed he won at the Northwest 200, TT, Tandragee 100.
