AKON, Ohio — Miguel Angel Gimenez shot a 4-under 66 on Saturday to earn the lead with Stephen Alker in the PGA Tour Champions’ third major of the year.
In pursuit of this year’s fourth victory, Jimenez performed a five-hole stretch in the middle of the round at the 4-under Firestone South, making birdies 7-8 and 10-11. The 61-year-old Spanish star dropped his stroke on the par 3 12th and interpreted the final six holes.
Tied in a second round lead, Arca had a 67 that coincided with Jamenez at 202 under.
Jimenez won the Trophy Hassan II in Morocco in February, the Hoag Classic in Newport Beach, California in March, and the Principal Charity Classic in the playoffs in Des Moines, Iowa three weeks ago. He has 16 career victories on over 50 tours.

Alkar birded 17th place on par 4 and even pulled with Jimenez, missing the green and missing the left before earning a par 4 footer in par 4 18th place. The 53-year-old from New Zealand won the Coroguard Classic in March in Tucson, Arizona.
Michael Wright (66) and Freddie Jacobson (67) finished third with a 6-under. Richard Green (67) was under five years of age.
The winner will win a spot at the Player Championship at TPC Sawgrass next year.
Firestone South previously hosted the World Series golf and the World Golf Championship. It’s a strong test for players who will be going to the US Senior Open in Colorado next.
Angel Cabrera, who won two majors in regional traditions this year and the Senior PGA Championship in Congress, was over 2 years old after 73.
