Mike Perry helped him build a fair roster for his dirty boxing fight promotion.
The first official announcement of the dirty boxing brand is set this Saturday at DBX 1 at the hangar at Regatta Harbor, Miami. The event is streamed for free on all of YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and Dirty Boxing social media platforms. In the main event, Romero heads out to Bellator veteran Ras Halton, featuring a heavyweight leaning.
Romero got the headline “It’s like a soft opening for the November promotional VIP event – dirty boxing. “Solder of God” wiped out power slap veteran Duane Crespo in a knockout in the first round. Perry believes Romero and dirty boxing are a perfect match for him.
“Yoel is a special character with dirty boxing,” Perry told MMA Fighting. “Yoel was an Olympic medalist. People who performed at that level… I was hanging out with Yoel in the Middle East, and T was very motivated. I mean, you can think he’s with the politicians and the highest level people he thinks you are and is refined in class.
“That’s where you get big deals and lots of money, and I’m so happy that Yoel is leading the way in dirty boxing.”
Romero is currently signed to a new GFL organization, but has yet to announce the official date for the first card. The 47-year-old is busy with custom-rules combat, a dirty boxing, and Perry sees Romero as an integral part of what his team is trying to build.
“He’s a very talented athlete,” Perry explained. “At the age of playing like him, he was very calm and collected in the final battle for us. You’d say, ‘It was a power slap guy.’ It’s a big heavy guy who knows how to hit hard, and if he attacks you… he couldn’t even touch Yoel.
“Yoel takes the time, he moves around, he dodges the punches, then he lands one shot to finish the night. It’s a real talent in mixed martial arts, a real talent in combat. So I’m so honored to build this dirty boxing promotion with Yoel and build the rest of the team we were involved in.”
For Perry, he has been part of the world of combat for over a decade. This includes 15 matches at the UFC, becoming the current face of BKFC and even playing a boxing match with Jake Paul this summer.
“Platinum” went through all the emotions of the fight week as a competitor, but now he’s starting to see it all as a promoter.
“Yeah, there’s a nerve here too,” Perry said. There are plenty of thoughts from all the powerful people who have worked behind closed doors at this event, appearing on Saturday. It will be streamed live on YouTube. For all the fans you see at home, we want to provide a great show, so check out all the tunings.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into it, but there are still questions in the air when it comes to voter turnout. We have a great show so we hope that everyone in attendance knows they like what they’re seeing and what they’re part of.
