Mike Perry is currently in promoter mode ahead of Dirty Boxing 2 this Saturday in Miami, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to get a job with the former UFC middleweight champion.
Prior to Dirty Boxing’s second official event, the BKFC star traveled to Las Vegas, where he eventually trained at Xtreme Couture, where he shared a sparring hard round with Shaun Strickland.
“We talked about it a few times, but I didn’t get in the way to make it happen,” Perry told MMA Fighting. “I had to go to Vegas. Obviously he was a big name, and ‘Platinum’ got his own name, but it continued in his own power, but I wrote to him and contacted him and spoke to him.
“Shawn Strickland was trying to get me to ride a dirt bike, and I shot a gun in the desert of Las Vegas, and I just didn’t have time, but I couldn’t stop by.
Dirty Boxing 2 headlines that former UFC heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik has made his promotional debut against Power Slap and BKFC veteran Devon Schwan.
Perry helped co-create dirty boxing, reflecting his unstoppable, pressured fighting style. “Platinum” certainly showed insight in a five-minute brawl with Strickland.
“I showed up, I went, I did some warm-ups. I did a round with someone else, and I did a round with Sean. “He has at least 35 pounds on me. I was happy to see his style and how he had a punch.
“Shaun was very protective, and I was very tired just blocking a lot of the punches or taking a few things on my forehead. When there’s an altitude in Las Vegas, that’s not something I prepared for.
As for Perry’s combat career, he says there’s something in the film, but there’s nothing to be announced yet. Perry admits that he has been on the sidelines for a long time, nearly 14 months since he last competed in the BKFC ring and nearly a year after losing to Jake Paul in the boxing ring.
Perry says he’s used to throwing negative comments to fans in his way, and has received some following his spur with Starickland. Perry’s reaction? Get there with your own Strickland and see what happens.
“Obviously, he’ll probably work with you, because most people don’t want to go to Sean Strickland for five minutes. If so, we’ll see what happens to him,” Perry said. “The punch I had to take just to roll off my shoulder would have dropped a lot of people talking about the comments, but I wanted to give you guys entertainment and show you.
“Imagine having a cardio that I go with him to a three-minute round, that pressure to block those punches with your forehead. I get you so tired, you don’t care who you are.
“So don’t hate me. I’m elevated here. I’m lifting people up.”
