Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been advised to drop Gabriel Martinelli and use Ethan Nuwanelli on the left side in the second round of Paris Saint-Germain.
Gunner lost 1-0 to PSG in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals last night, with Osmane Dembele brilliantly at Emirates Stadium with an early goal.
It wasn’t the best performance from Arsenal, but this tie is not finished yet. They certainly aim to generate a big response to Parc des Princes in a week.
But Arteta may have to change things a little. Also, there may be cases where Martinelli is dropped from the starting lineup after an unconvincing display.
Arsenal should use Ethan Nuwaneri from the start for PSG next week, Pandit says
Discussing what Arsenal could do in a different way, former West Ham player Nigel Leo Coker called for Nuwaneri to start in Paris next week.
Speaking about CBS Sports, as Metro quoted, critics argued that nwaneri would come to the left of it, even if it was not a role he played before.
“Do you know what I do? I’m starting to play Nuwaneri. Ethan, a young young man from Arsenal.
“I hate when people say about players ‘too young’. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. I’ll let Ethan go there and do him.
“That’s a tough decision, but I’ll take Martinelli to Nuwaneri.”
He added: “You’d say Nuwaneri doesn’t play much in that position, but in modern game players they all trade in different positions. They’ll find a way to bring him to that team.”
Arsenal missed a big opportunity against PSG
Arsenal may be good at changing Martinelli in Nuwaneri, but the truth is that they lacked a clinical finisher last night.
It’s probably not so surprising when both their main strikers, Kai Herberts and Gabriel Jesus, are injured.
Even before those injuries, there were questions about whether Arsenal had enough clinical targets on their side.
Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both missed out on big opportunities for PSG, but it’s not clear that simply replacing one of them with Nwaneri will be enough to make things a major change next week.
