Miles Lowe hit current championship leader Dennis Hauger on the line at Iowa Speedway, winning his first Indy NXT victory and becoming the first black driver to win the series.
Haugher led the majority of the race before being overtaken by Rowe on 14 laps in the race.
When handed over, Low managed to pull away from Hauger and won over a second with the oval shape.
Speaking to Fox Sports, Rowe said:
“It’s very important to be able to see people who seem to be doing well, those you admire. Especially when you’re young, things seem to be much bigger and more effective than motorsport-related in particular.
“We’ve been working for this for a minute. We knew there was a pace. It was waiting until the final lap of the race and watching us do it.”
Lowe came in fourth after seeing a tornado approach the track, with all sessions cancelled on a dramatic Friday.
During the race, Lowe waited for Hauger to get stuck behind the lap car before making a pass.
Rowe explained that his knowledge of the oval is the key to victory. “The nature of the truck was essentially flat, especially starting with new tires, so it was not realistic to go through the first line and was trying not to wrap around the outside.
“I knew I had to come to the traffic and be a bit strategic and patient.”
Rowe became the first black driver to win an IndyCar approved race when he won the USF2000 Series in August 2021.
During the 2023 USF Pro Series 2000 series, he continued to succeed, earning multiple victories and ultimately won the title.
After joining HMD Motorsports in 2024, Rowe moved to Abel Motorsports this season.
While content with his first victory, Lowe is clearly more ambitious. He continued: “I want more. Honestly, this is great first thing, but I’m looking for multiple wins and looking to take it over to Indycar.”
“We won’t stop here. We’re looking for more.”
