Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch took the time to praise one of the team’s backup players following his latest victory.
After a enthusiastic 2ot victory over the Denver Nuggets, who took over the team’s energy levels, the Minnesota Timberwolves needed an easier follow-up.
And that was exactly what they got on a road trip to Brooklyn Net, with Minnesota cruising for a 105-90 victory.
Despite the easy win, backup centre Luca Garza only had two minutes of play time. It was February when his minutes reached double digits, and manager Chris Finch was quized about him after the match.
After the game, Chris Finch spoke about Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gortbert, praising him as “amazing” and setting the tone for the team.
And for Bosnian outlook Luka Garza, the route to the minutes is difficult, as players like Gobert are on his path.
Finch says he respects Garza and what he brings behind the scenes, but he can’t offer him regular minutes right now, and is nothing more than an urgent option.
He states: “Luka remains a perfect expert. Fortunately, there are a lot of really talented, big big names, and perhaps it has hindered his opportunity.
“We have him a little more as a ‘breakgrass in case of emergency’ type guy. He’s the guy who can really get the ball at all different levels and rebounds the ball well.
Finch says he knows what he’s trying to get when he put Garza in the game and respects his credibility.
He states:
“He was an incredible role model for young players because of his working style and his positive attitude.”
Luka Garza, 22, is a two-time Kareem Abdul Jabbar Award recipient and is the trophy given to this year’s Centre at the university level. The most recent winner was Starzack Edith of the current Memphis Grizzlies.
Garza played in 38 games for the Timberwolves this season. This is the most featured during the NBA season, so that’s what advances are. However, he averaged only 5.7 points per game on these looks.
As Finch explains, Garza is an emergency option that Timberholb doesn’t need to resort to, but he gives great respect for his professionalism.
