NEW YORK – Mix Team golf event debuts at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the International Golf Federation on Tuesday said the team will consist of one male and one female athlete from the individual tournament.
The event will be contested as a 36-hole competition and the PGA Tour is divided into two 18-hole rounds, with up to one team per country.
IGF Executive Director Antony Scanlon said that as he returned to the program for the first time in the 2016 Rio Games for the first time in over a century, the new event will help build on the Olympic profile of the sport.
“Golf was extremely successful in Paris 2024. As we continue to build on the momentum of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, we are excited to bring even more attention to the sport through this additional format,” Scanlon said in a statement.
“Athletes are extremely keen on their desire to play with their fellow countrymen and look forward to seeing them compete together in Los Angeles.”
Group events will be held at the Riviera Country Club between individual competitions for men and women competitions.
