As expected, there was no shortage of drama on the final day of the MLB regular season. Not only did the 83-79 skids lose Sunday after the New York Mets started 45-23 this season, but not only did they leave the playoff race, but superstar Pete Alonso opted out of his contract.
In other news, the postseason wildcard round begins on Tuesday. The New York Yankees host their rival Boston Red Sox, and the Cleveland Guardians (15.5 games in July) are hosting the Detroit Tigers on the American League side. In the National League, the Los Angeles will host the Cincinnati Reds, while the Chicago Cubs will host the San Diego Padres.
Finally, the Juggernaut Philadelphia Phillies got incredible news as three-time All-Starring Turner returned to the team (and won its first batting title by a Phillies member since 1958). He was out with hamstring tension since the first week of September, but now he hopes to return by Game 1 of the NLDS.
MLB Score
The Cleveland Guardians beat the Texas Rangers through a thrilling three-run walk-off home run in 11 innings, winning the American League Central Division in the process, with the Miami Marlins blanking the New York Mets to knock out postseason contests, and the Los Angeles defeating the Seattle Mariners of their future Hall’s final season career.
