Current Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi is adamant that he will not hand over the Asia Cup trophy to India until India sends a representative to collect it from his office. Therefore, the Indian governing board, BCCI, decided to participate in the ICC meeting..
Ever since India won the 2025 Asia Cup, there has been a massive fallout over the PCB chief and Pakistan’s interior minister’s refusal to accept the trophy. He also boosted his self-esteem by walking away with a trophy.
The BCCI has written to the ACC multiple times asking them to hand over the trophy without any delay. However, the ACC chief continued to embarrass them by refusing to award the trophy.

BCCI escalates Asia Cup trophy issue to ICC. meeting fixed
The BCCI is looking to expand negotiations related to the race for the Asia Cup trophy with cricket’s premier international body. They have not only continued to send formal complaints to the ACC but have also consistently requested that they receive the sealed trophy at their headquarters in Dubai.
However, in his recent response to the allegations, coach Mohsin Naqvi gave a stern ultimatum that the BCCI must send one of its players from the ACC headquarters to accept it in Naqvi’s own hands. Then they could host the ceremony in India. However, he has no intention of sending the trophy across the border to India.
The BCCI had also raised the matter in front of all ICC members at the ICC board meeting in Dubai from November 4 to 7, warning him against moving to the ICC. The ICC is currently headed by former BCCI chief Jay Shah..

BCCI ready to escalate trophy handover issue with ICC

BCCI extends help to ACB and SLC in match against Mohsin Naqvi
The BCCI has always been on its own, without much support. However, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board have entered into this scenario and supported the Indian Cricket Control Board’s move against Mohsin Naqvi.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has always maintained good relations with the Indian Board and therefore supported the BCCI from the very beginning. They are currently co-hosting the Women’s World Cup and will also co-host the upcoming T20 World Cup.
However, after three innocent Afghan cricketers were killed in a heinous attack on Afghan territory, the ACB supported the BCCI and held Pakistan responsible for such attacks. ACB further withdraws from trifecta in Pakistan, supported by BCCI unity.
BCCI paves way for Mohsin Naqvi’s impeachment from ACC
The Cricket Council of Asia has only a few Test-playing countries and India already has support from two of these councils. While SLC jointly hosts ICC tournaments with India and ACB sends youth teams to India to give them a better platform to mold themselves into better modern cricketers, they don’t seem to be going against the BCCI’s stance.
In any case, Mohsin Naqvi’s impeachment was on the minds of BCCI officials. Moreover, a large part of the ACC’s finances comes from matches involving the BCCI and Indian teams. With widespread support and constant pressure mounting, it seems like it won’t be long before Mohsin Naqvi’s impeachment is removed from the Speaker’s chair.
