San Antonio Spurs can make a big decision after the results of the NBA Draft lottery.
In their third consecutive season, the San Antonio Spurs were rewarded with top-five picks in the NBA Draft.
The Spurs have already drafted Victor Wenbanyama and Stefon Castle in 2024 in 2023, but have been shot at adding another young player to the core in the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Given that Cooper Flag is the consensus No. 1 overall pick, the Spurs could potentially choose Dylan Harper in the second spot.
Dylan, son of 5x NBA champion Ron Harper, has earned great mentorship throughout his amateur basketball career.
Playing in the NBA is a challenging task, but Harper is having an incredible freshman year with Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
He played 29 games on the program, averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in his only season.
NBA expert Tim Bontemps has recently accumulated a huge acclaim for the 6’6 guard, which has led to Harper’s talent on sale as well.
“Dylan Harper, I think he has a chance to become a monster player. 6” 6 guards, handle the ball.
However, Harper’s arrival could spell trouble for Dearon Fox, who played just 17 games with the team after being traded with the Spurs mid-season.
As Victor Wembanyama improves at an incredible speed, he needs an elite guard around him to improve floor spacing.
Spurs swapped Fox to help Wemby, but with the prospect of drafting Harper around the corner, Bontemps feels the franchise should say goodbye to the 2023 NBA All-Star after just 17 games.
“If I were Spurs, I’d consider trading De’aaron Fox personally. And I’ll move forward with the super young core you have and Dylan Harper will be the long-term point guard with Victor Wenbanyama.
At this point, it’s too early to make a quick decision. After all, Fox will prove himself as an elite scorer, and Harper will be a rookie.
Fox trading can help teams in the long run, but if the team experiments too much, there is a risk that another year will be wasted.
