Los Angeles superstar Mookie Betts spent offseason training making an unprecedented transition from right field to shortstop.

After winning six Gold Globe Awards as an elite right fielder, Betts is tackling the next challenge of his already prolific career. The returned Betts to the right field after returning from the injury list last season, but the 32-year-old went straight to work after winning his third championship in October.
Some of Betts’ offseason jobs included a trip to Texas to work with Shortstop Troitrowitzki, who won five All-Stars and two Gold Gloves.
“I couldn’t believe in the progress he made,” Turowiczki said. “I say I’ll do something, and it happens in quite a day or two. And when he gets home, he sends the video back to me, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s it, guy.’ He says he is a special person.
“I don’t have to say this for anyone else who’s just spent years in the outfield. Then I’ll go to the infield. But I can really tell you, I think he can become an elite defender in that position.
Beyond training with Gold Gloves’ shortstops, Betts continued his non-stop training this winter with the help of his closest neighbor, Brianna Betts.
“Occasionally, my wife would roll a ground ball at me. If I had nothing else to do, I would throw the ball at the wall for an hour,” Betts said.
Betts’ 2025 season began with a stomach virus that lost nearly 20 pounds and missed the Tokyo Series. But Betts has proven that there’s not much he can’t do as he hit multiple home runs low-heavy hits, including Walk-off Three Run Homer.
There hasn’t been a change in position as he’s making in recent baseball history, but if someone succeeds in a difficult job, it’s Betts.
