Trae Young was not going to support what the former NBA champion said about him during his recent appearance on ESPN.
The final few seasons were not the best for Trae Young. The Atlanta Hawks point guard has made a great start to his career in the NBA.
After building an All-Star and All-NBA team in his first three seasons and taking the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, Young couldn’t make much of an impact on the league.
Many of these issues come from the decisions of the Hawks’ mediocre roster. But this offseason, the team has come well to build around him.
The Hawks traded for Kristaps Porzingis in one of the biggest moves of this offseason. And in the NBA Draft, the Hawks secured a 2026 first-round pick that was unprotected from the Pelicans.
To close the campaign, the Hawks landed Nickaile Alexander Walker in Sign and Trade. This was the offseason the Hawks needed to persuade Trae Young. Perhaps this roster will help him prove his detractors wrong.
Iman Shamppert recently appeared in the NBA to talk about Trae Young. Despite his talent, Shamp was unconvinced by his ability to become an NBA star.
In particular, the former NBA champion chased Young because he was too small for a championship team and too much defensive responsibility.
“Statistically, what he brings to a basketball game is that, I get it. It’s hard to say at 6’3 he can switch to five at the end of the game.
Trae Young responded to fans who denounced Shumpert for his comments, noting that Young had won his best during his final outing against each other.
“So I let them live… what I did to him when we played, you’d think he’d respected more when my name grew up!
Throughout his career, Trae Young has faced Iman Shumpertt four times. In these four games, Young averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
Trae Young’s performance of Iman Shumpert, who he came during his rookie season, saw Young drop 36 points against Samp and the Houston Rockett.
Being able to lose such a strong performance, especially as a newcomer, is a great achievement. And this is why Young is within his right to deal with Shumpert.
Shumpert was a brilliant player and champion of his career, but he wasn’t the first choice for a team like Young.
Shumpert played his role in the Cavaliers’ championship team, playing behind LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
Meanwhile, Trae Young is the star the Hawks are building to try and compete for the NBA championship.
