Morning Report: Alexander Volkanovsky says Max Holloway deserves Ilia Toplia’s rematch

Alexander Volkanovski believes Max Holloway has acquired another crack at Ilia Topuria.

On Saturday, Holloway rebounded from last year’s featherweight title loss and made a unanimous decision over Dustin Poirier to maintain the “BMF” title in the main event of UFC 318. It was Poilier’s final battle in his career.

“I’m going to tell Max now how incredible it was,” he said on his YouTube channel. “It’s not easy to come back from losses. He has shown it over and over again, not just big losses, loss of world titles, tears, but also big losses. You start to have those negative thoughts.

“He has returned from a great loss before, but never ko. How will he come into the battle of ‘BMF’? …It’s going to get you mentally. Max, I don’t think it’s gone.

Following his victory, Holloway was laissez-faire for his next fight. Still, “BMF” champion Holloway is now full-time lightweight, winning by two of the division’s top names. That being said, he recently lost to Toplia. Topria is now a lightweight champion, but it was down at 145 pounds. Holloway said he still has an unfinished business with Topuria, but he said it would be great to protect the “BMF” belt next, if the UFC likes it. And in the case of Volkanovski, he believes Holloway deserves another crack in “El Matador.”

“We know Max fought him, but now it’s lightweight that they want to be,” Volkanovsky said. “You have to think about who Max beats with light weight. You have to do a lightweight fight. Max defeated Justin Goeche. He next thinks.

“Or Ahman. Obviously, Ahman was there. I don’t know what that was. Paddy Pinblett, they had a showdown. There’s a bit of a bad blood. I don’t know if that’s happening or not.

However, even if it opposes, Volkanovski admits that he has some concern about Holloway’s future. He has one of the best jaws ever in MMA history, but Holloway was dropped in three consecutive matches, including his first knockout loss to Toplia. As good as he still watched on Saturday, Volkanovski wonders if it might be a big problem with Topuria.

“We really don’t see Max falling that way. “I don’t know, I hate to say it. You talk about it, but the chin is exactly the same? I don’t know. I don’t know if I can. So if they fight again or move forward, Max can’t rely on his chin like he used to, he’s a little more strategic.”
