Leon Edwards lost the UFC welterweight title following a performance he and his team wanted to forget.
The situation surrounding Edwards’ third title defense this July was certainly unusual as he fought in his home country in the UFC 304 pay-per-view, which is scheduled to accommodate North American fans. That is, Edwards and his opponent, Beral Muhammad (from Chicago), went on a strike in the morning, as opposed to prime time in the evening.
Muhammad won a compelling decision and challenged Edwards’ belt to the frustration of coach Dave Label. But the problem with Lovell is not Muhammad, but at a strange start time where Edwards feels far less than his best.
“Swallowing is a bitter drug, but I have nothing from the Beral,” Label said. Ariel Hell Wani Show. “He won this way, like Leon did, but for him it’s a fair play.
Before that loss, Edwards was undefeated in 13 consecutive contests, with the only wound during that stretch being repression with Muhammad in March 2021. Muhammad was the victim who peered into a random eye at that first meeting.
Lovell also pointed to a prolonged back injury as Edwards remained more limited than normal, but he is not at loss. Edwards faces Sean Brady this Saturday in the main event at UFC London, with Label eager to move on from UFC 304.
“It was a truly disappointing week for us,” Label said. “Obviously, how long did Leon lose it?
“There were a few major factors leading up to the fight, and I forget about minor injuries,” Lovell added. “In England, I’ve heard about 6am.
“Yeah, it was a huge setback, but we are on our way back to money.
Two months after UFC London, Muhammad first defended the welterweight title when he met Jack de Ra Maddarena at the main event of UFC 315 on May 10th.
Did Lovell expect Edwards to get the call instead?
“He just held the title and he lost it, and it would be a little unusual for him to call to fight back for the title,” Label said. “It’s very rare to hear that happen.
“But he knows he can beat Beral.
For now, Edwards’ team is completely focused on Brady, the fighter who brings the style they are used to, even if they’re a bit tired.
“We set up a game plan for Jack, but in four weeks we changed to another wrestler,” Label said. “Leon said, ‘Well, that’s it,” and we know what the wrestlers are doing, so it’s just about working. ”
“We know the battle plan. We set up a battle plan, look at it, and look at the game plan that we set.”

It’s probably a long way back to Leon Edwards’ title, and he took his first step this Saturday in a tough matchup with Sean Brady. There’s no guarantee of wins or losses, “Rocky,” but let’s see if his coach is right about a fighter who just played an off-nighter last summer.
