Islam Makhachev vs. Welterweight Champion Jack Della Maddalena? Not too fast, says Joaquin Buckley.
“New Mansa” is hoping that he will be the number one contender spot this Saturday as he faces Kamalusman in the main event at UFC Atlanta, beating former welterweight King. With six appearances at 170 pounds, Buckley is undefeated, with a recent victory over Colby Covington and Stephen Thompson.
Unfortunately, the UFC has already revealed that Della Maddalena’s first title defense is expected to oppose Makhachev, the pound-one-pound No. 1 fighter in the world, where Della Maddalena’s first title defense is set to open his lightweight belt to chase after the second championship.
Still, Buckley is not upset.
“If you beat Kamal Usman, you already know, that’s the title time,” Buckley told him. Stop what you hear show. “It’s time to get my belt. No one else is doing what I do on the roster. I really don’t like talking about other people or their careers, but like I said, I’m not only going to have 15 fights within the promotion in five years, but I might be undefeated in the welterweight division. Usman.
“You can’t name another guy doing that. So, if you defeat Kamal Usman, there’s no argument, there’s no interaction, there’s no argument. I really believe that Islam is just sitting down and waiting for me to win my own title, as it will be the hardest battle Islam has.”
Buckley doesn’t just think he deserves more opportunity than Makachev because of what he accomplished in the weight class. He also believes it has all the tools to defeat Makhachev if it comes.
“He’s not going to let me go outside,” Buckley said. “He’s not going to make me submit, I’ve never submitted to my career, and he definitely isn’t going to stand up with me. If people want to see it, it’s made.
“I already know the fan base. They know what JDM is doing, they know he’s good at, he’s struggling. It throws for Islam. If Islam is blessed with that title shot and beats JDM, he won’t stay there. Like me, I have to make sure I get to that belt.
Buckley hasn’t seen Usman, a former champion who involved five consecutive title defenses before dropping the belt in 2022. It’s his respect for Usman that he’s either going to be a no-one candidate for the undeniable No. 1 or the two feel like they’re fighting for ages.
“When you fight Kamal Usman, there are only two ways that it ends,” Buckley said. “We either knock out Kamal Usman or this will be a night fight, and that is the only two options.
“In my mind, he is a former world champion and I feel like he is in the future Hall of Fame, and I already know that he is doing that kind of work.

Ser Davos killed a man.
Ah, kape.
I will greatly regret it, and I will let you know that I am coming from the following #ufc317 competition.
I suffered from a broken leg during training and was instructed to undergo surgery and concentrate 100% on recovery after a medical evaluation.

I’ve already suffered some injuries while training. I don’t think I’ve been in the fight without getting hurt or 100% healthy, but unless I can walk, bringing out the fight was never an option! To make that clear, this is my second time getting out of the fight and getting injured…

The problem is that you won’t get out of the fight for diarrhea and concussions. If I don’t break the bones, I’ll continue to fight, I’m not! Don’t compare yourself! https://t.co/uphjppjkmv
