The Chennai Super Kings faced a major blow ahead of their next match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11th. Skipper Ruthuraj Gaikwad was removed from the league with an injury after Scan revealed he had broken his elbow.
Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an elbow injury during a match against the Rajasthan Royals at IPL 2025 on March 30th. The batter hit the elbow while batting with Teeshal Deshpande and then looked extremely uncomfortable.
Ms Dhoni will take over the leadership of the team in the absence of Ruthuraj Gaiquad.
There was a lot of speculation about his fitness after facing that blow against the Royals in Rajasthan. The Chennai Super Kings skipper went on to play the next two games against the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings. However, prior to the match against the Kolkata Knight Rider, the scan confirmed he had a broken bone.
The Ruthurajgai quad, which was removed from IPL 2025, will be a major blow to the Super Kings in Chennai. This is because his absence leaves a big gap as he has been a key batsman on the team for the past few years and his team is in a tough position.
In his absence, Ms Dhoni takes over the team’s leadership. This marks his return as captain for the first time after leading the team to a title victory in the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
