After the match, Najmur Hossein Shant announced he would resign as Bangladesh’s test captain. Previously, various media reported that things were not good between Shanto and BCB. Because despite his desire to continue his role, he communicated inadequately before being fired as ODI captain.

Announced his decision to end the test captaincy at a press conference, Najmul Hossain Shanto revealed that he had notified the BCB’s Cricket Operations Division of the “days ago” move.
Shanto added that three different captains across the format were not a wise move and therefore resigned from their roles solely to improve their team.
“I don’t want to continue in the test format anymore (as a captain). This is not personal. I made a decision to improve the team,” Shanto said as ESPNCricinfo quoted.
“I think this will help the team. I’ve been part of the dressing room of a few teams last time. I don’t think three captains (three international formats) are wise.”

Najmul Hossain Shanto further said that handling the three independent captains would be difficult for the BCB and team managers, but provided full support to the board in any decisions made in the future.
“I don’t know what the board will feel about this. I support their decision. But this is my personal decision. I think it’s difficult for the team to deal with,” he added.
“No one would feel this decision is emotional, or I wouldn’t want to feel disappointed with something. I want to make this clear, this is for the sake of improving the team.”
Talking about Shant’s captain’s record, he led Bangladesh in 14 matches after taking over the role in 2023. He won in just four matches, losing nine matches at the helm of nine, but led Bangladesh to a historic Test series victory in Pakistan in 2024.
