Reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Rogano and former Atlanta Braves MLB Starchipper Jones engaged in a fierce war of words after the Talladega race.
In Jack Rink’s 500 race at Talladega Super Speedway on April 27, Pensuke driver Logano gave teammate Austin Sindrick a stage 2 victory to 23xi Toyota rival Baba Wallace, prompting a praised message beyond team radio.
“How to go, Austin,” said Rogano at the time. “How you go stupid***.
While Sindrick, who won the race, was not angry at Rogano’s comments, former basketball legend Jones was unhappy with Rogano’s sportsmanship.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Remember, all in fact, urs mfed use on national television that he did everything he could to prevent him from destroying him. I hate being #dueces at Monday’s ‘team’ meeting.
“As all teams have, as long as I’m a star, there are people for our team “for our team.” Hendrick, RCR, JGR, Pensuke, and more. Karma can be brilliant. Have fun with this!
After Logano was disqualified from the race for technical reasons, Jones said:
Three-time Cup Series champion Logano has returned to Jones’ comments.
“Nobody else, no one, no Chipper Jones, no race fans, when they came up with a way to race at the Super Speedway, except for the driver, Pensuke’s team principal and the Crew Chiefs,” the 34-year-old told SiriusXM NASCAR.
“Chipper Jones, he looks like a cool guy, he does a lot. He’s pretty popular and a good baseball player, but he’s not a race car driver.
He added: “People who are involved in professional sports and attending such conferences will probably take a step back and say, “Perhaps there was a story here, more of that than that.”
After Rogano won the Cup race in Texas last weekend, Jones praised X’s Pen Skester, suggesting that tensions are being eased.
“Congratulations to @joeylogano,” he wrote. “The HOF driver has a stunning victory. This is what NASCAR fans are hoping for you. A hard-charged victory and a graceful top 5 and 10s. Well done!”
