One NBA insider believes that Luka Doncic’s re-signment with the La Lakers is a warning to them, not a guarantee.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a really strong move this offseason. It’s clear that the team is trying to improve ahead of the new season.
They didn’t start the offseason well, as Lakers’ Dorian Finney Smith would take Rob Perinka’s poor negotiations. The two-way forward joined the free agency Rockets.
However, the president of basketball operations bouncing off very quickly as he brought Jay Claravia and DeAndre Ayton to the Lakers.
Thanks to the help of Luka Doncic, the Lakers also signed Marcus Smart. And to close it all down, the Lakers also landed Warriors summer league standout Chris Mannon.
However, these signatures were not necessary just to improve the roster. As one NBA insider said, these signatures may be important to keep Lukadon Sic.
Dave McMenamin of ESPN’s La Lakers Beat Reporter appeared in the NBA today to discuss Luka Doncic’s future with the team.
He believes Donsic’s final contract extension with the Lakers is a message to the team. The message is simple. “I look forward to competing for future championships.”
“This signed away to the Lakers and said, ‘OK, you have my commitment, so I have some patience here. I want to win this year. I want to win the following year.
“As long as my name is signed to be a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, I hope I will be in a position to raise the banner at the Crypto.com Arena.”
Luka Doncic has yet to sign a new La Lakers deal, but all indications point to sticking to Los Angeles in the near future.
Doncic’s recruiting drive is the biggest indicator of his Lakers’ future. However, this drive from Donsic presents a double-rimmed sword for the Lakers.
The team must not make excuses for flounder next season and be active in the title hunt. Their roster is not perfect compared to some heavy hitters in the West.
But when Luka Donsic and LeBron James play at the highest level possible, it’s like having an extra guy on the court.
The Lakers must give it all next season and ensure they will truly push the NBA Championship to keep Don Sic happy.
