Deandre Ayton just finished his first game as a star of the La Lakers, and fans were not impressed with the performance of the new signature
The Los Angeles Lakers had just finished their first preseason game and lost 103-81 to the Phoenix Suns. Both Luka Donsic and LeBron James left tonight and they didn’t have the firepower they needed.
Most of the attention was given to DeAndre Ayton as he played for the Los Angeles Lakers jersey for the first time. Interestingly, Ayton’s first game was against his former team, the Phoenix Suns.
Devin Booker’s ambiguity about Ayton’s chances with the Lakers raised many eyebrows and wondered if others knew anything about players they didn’t.
And after Ayton’s first preseason game was disappointing, fans agree that the Lakers may be overestimating his abilities.
In the LA Lakers’ preseason opening game, Deandre Ayton started the game and played 18 minutes before getting on the bench. He scored only one point, tried two shots, grabbed eight rebounds and two blocks.
Many fans responded after Ayton’s first game. One fan said, “Lakers fans have found a new scapegoat.”
Another fan predicted that Ayton’s predicament would continue, saying, “Lakers fans will soon understand the pain. They are in the denial stage now.”
One fan enjoyed themselves with the Lakers fanbase, writing, “Lakers fans thought they were their savior.” But not everyone was blaming Ayton, and some even came to his defense.
Lakers fans correctly pointed out, “Do you think you’re posting preseason statistics along with the two best players and playmakers on the team?”
Another fan urged people to watch the game, saying, “He looked solid when he saw the game. Only Box Score Watcher hates it.”
The third fan, reflecting these feelings, insisted, “He was great besides scoring. That was pre-season.”
Deandre Ayton didn’t do much to impress fans in his first game as a star for La Lakers, but the same can be said for the rest of the team.
Outside the Austin Raves and RJ Davis, they scored 34 points in 11-19 shooting, but the rest of the team was extremely inefficient.
In particular, Dalton Knecht was extremely poor, 2-10 from the field and 1-7 from the deep. It appears that Knecht’s summer league misery has been carried over in the preseason.
The Lakers hope to turn things around with next preseason fixtures with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.
